EVENTS AND NEWS

We were sorry to learn that Frank Galliher will be leaving Camp Workcoeman in the coming months.  In addition to his years of service to the camp, Frank has been dam superintendent for many years and was responsible for managing the water levels of the lake, a particularly difficult task this past summer. We are grateful to Frank for all that he’s done for the West Hill Pond community, and especially his work for the WHPA.  We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors and hope he will come back to visit often.  The lake won’t be the same without him.

The video below explains why there is a major concern about people bringing their large boats to West Hill Pond in the late fall to clean their boats here or not cleaning their boats after being in the Connecticut River. The primary problem is Hydrilla ( an invasive weed) which is a major threat to the entire Connecticut river.

Attached is a water report from GZA (a limnologist team recently hired by the West Hill Pond Association, WHPA) on West Hill Lake’s water quality. The last sentence of the report captures an executive summary, pasted below for easy reference:
“In sum, early spring conditions at West Hill Pond seem very healthy and bode well for the coming summer season”

Report

Attached is a report from the State of Connecticut (Greg Bugbee) who completed a survey of the aquatic vegetation and water chemistry in our lake in the fall of 2022. This survey was previously taken in 2012 and 2005. No invasive species were found at the time of this survey but with a busy boat launch the threat still exists.
